Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the efficiency of flocculation by a simplified operation in which a liquid to be treated is heated to a temperature above room temperature and then a flocculant is added to the liquid for flocculation.
CONSTITUTION: Excessive sludge from biological treatment is passed from a sludge treatment tank 12 with a stirrer 14 through a pipe 16 and then a heat exchanger 20 by means of a supply pump 18, preheated to approx. 50°C, and then put in a heating tank 26 to heat it to a high temperature of approx. 90°C by a heater 28. Then, the liquid to be treated is put in a flocculating tank 30 and an amount (the ratio thereof is 4 liters/m3) of a ferric chloride solution (28%) as a flocculant is added to the liquid through a pipe 31 while keeping it at approx. 90°C by heating, followed by a 5min stirring, where the pH3W4 of the liquid is raised to pH6W7 by the addition of a NaOH solution as a neutralizer through a pipe 32. Then, the high- temperature liquid is heat-exchanged with the heat exchanger 20 to cool it to approx. 30°C, discharged through a pipe 34, and then filtered by a filter.
