PURPOSE:To easily measure real-time by immersing the surface of a transparent substance of higher refraction index than a liquid to be measured in a liquid to be measured, making a light containing a component of a prearranged angle incident onto the surface of a transparent substance and detecting a quantity of reflective light on the surface. CONSTITUTION:A light from a luminous diode 4 connected to a drive circuit 26 is input to a supertransparent quartz glass rod 7 of higher refraction index than a sugar solution 9 where the tip is immersed through the intermediary of a light focusing rod lens 3 and a beam splitter 6. A light entering into the rod runs into the peripheral surface and a light at shaper angle than a total reflective critical angle, totally reflecting, reaching the bottom of a quartz rod 7.
