Abstract

PURPOSE:To make measurement easy and make its processing speed higher by so constituting the device that the optical characteristics of the serum in a reaction tube may be measured while kept put in the reaction tube. CONSTITUTION:A probe 16 consists of an optical fiber and is given the action of a convex lens at its end face 161. This probe 16 is inserted into the serum of a reaction tube 10 and the light emitted by a light source 18 is introduced to its other end 162 through lenses 19, 20. This light is radiated into the serum from the end face 161 of the probe 16 and is reflected at the bottom part 102 of the reaction tube 10. thereupon, if the distance between the end face 161 and the bottom part 102 is made equal to the fixed distance d which is determined by the radius of curvature of the convex lens formed at the end face 161 and the refractive index, etc. of the serum, then much of the light radiated into the serum is again directed from the end face 161 to the probe 16. This light is received in a photo detector 24, whereby the optical characteristics of the serum are readily obtained.
