Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent effectively the emulsification of tar produced without an increase in the cost of equipment, operating cost, etc., by a method wherein a demulsifier is added to a region ranging from the curved pipe part of a riser in a coke oven to a decanter.
CONSTITUTION: In a stage wherein gas evolving from a coke oven 1 is passed through a riser 2', the curved pipe part of the riser, a dry main pipe 5 and a gas- cooling device 7 and supplied through a blower 11 to a next stage, there is provided a nozzle 4A adjacent to the ammonia liquor-flushing nozzle 4 of the curved pipe part of the riser, and a demulsifier 12A in a tank 12 is passed through a pump 14, a regulating valve 13, and a pipe 15 and sprayed from the nozzle 4A to prevent the formation of an emulsion layer within a decanter 6. Examples of the demulsifiers are mixtures of satd. hydrocarbons, halogenated amines, polymerized ethers, phenolformaldehyde resin, etc. The demulsifiers is used in an amount of 0.02W0.5wt% based on the weight of tar produced.
