Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a novel antitumor substance, by subjecting a milled japanese apricot seed (a seed of an apricot) to a specific treatment.
CONSTITUTION: Ammonium sulfate is added to an emulsion containing a milled Japanese apricot seed (a seed of an apricot) to the final concentration of about 40W80%, preferably about 70% saturated solution. The solution thus obtained is centrifuged to collect the precipitate, which is dialyzed with water to remove the salt and give an antitumor substance. The substance is a protein, positive to the ninhydrin reaction and loses the antitumor activity completely by the heat treatment at 100°C for 10min. The aqueouw solution thereof assumes a light yellow color. The substance is freeze-dried into powder and preserved, and inhibits the growth or multiplication of a tumor cell specifically.
