Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst of high activity and a long life by using a mixture of alumina having specific fine pore characteristics and Y type zeolite for the carrier of a catalyst used at the hydrocracking of heavy oils.
CONSTITUTION: In the hydrocracking catalyst prepd. by carrying periodic table VIa group and VIII group metals on the carrier which is the mixture of alumina and Y type zeolite for heavy oils, the fine pores of the catalyst are controlled by a nitrogen gas adsorption method to such that the mean diameters of 20W600Å diameters are 90W120Å, the volume of pores with 70W130Å diameters is ≥50% that of 20W600Å diameters and the volume of pores with 20W60Å diameters is ≤30% that of 20W600Å diameters. They are also controlled by a mercury forcing method to such that the mean diameters of the fine pores of 62W600Å diameters are 80W120Å, the volume of pores with ±20Å mean diameter is ≥60% that of 62W 600Å, and that of others is ≤10% the volume of 62W600Å diameters. The catalyst of these fine pore characteristics is a catalyst that maintains high activity.
