Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent strain in steel due to quanching by a method wherein one side of steel is placed on an inductive heating unit and the steel is quenched by heating and cooling; at the same time the other side is heated by induction so as to compensate for the stress balance due to heat input from both heaqing units. CONSTITUTION:Steel 3 to be quenched is placed on a high frequency inductive heating unit 2 having a built-in cooling jacket 8. Then, the steel 3 is pressed against the heating unit 2 by lowering press bars 5, 5 located above the steel 3. At the same time, by rotaing screw nut 11 in bracket installed to the press bars 5, 5 and by using screws 12, 12, another inductive heating unit 13 is approached the opposite side 14 of the steel 3. From the high-frequency power supply 6 current it passed through the inductive element 2 to heat the underside of the steel 3. At the same time, the top side 14 of the steel is heated by passing high-frequency current through the inductive unit 13 from the power supply 6'. Then, the steel is quenched by rapid cooling using a cooling jacket 8. To prevent the steel 3 from strain deformation, stree balance due to heat input from both inductive units 2, 13 is compensated each other.
