Abstract
PURPOSE: The titled agent, capable of exciting and alluring the male of a cockroach from the hiding place thereof and moving it vigorously around the agent, and containing (+)-verbanyl propilonate having the same action as a sex hormone as an active constituent.
CONSTITUTION: A cockroach attractant containing (+)-verbanyl propionate expressed by formula I as an active constitutent. The agent is placed on a catching surface coated with an adhesive material and a cockroach is attracted and caught. Pinene of formula II is oxidized with ozone and brominated to give 3β-bromonopinone of formula III, which is then reacted with 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]-7-undecene (DBU) to afford an apoverbenone of formula IV. The resultant apoverbenone is reacted with (CH3)2CuLi to give (+)-trans-verbanone of formula V, which is then reacted with aluminum triisopropoxide to convert the ketone group into an OH group. The reaction product is further reacted with propionic anhydride to afford the compound of formula I.
