Abstract

PURPOSE: To carry out wet type treatment of phenol gas which is outstanding in terms of removal rate, maintenance control, running costs, etc. by maintaining the ratio between the NaOH concn. in the phenol gas absorbing liquid in exhaust gases and the NaHCO3 concn. produced in the absorbing liquid constant.
CONSTITUTION: The absorbing liquid composed of an NaOH soln. in a storage tank 2 is beforehand circulatively supplied by 7 to the upper part of the packed layer 5 in an absorbing cylinder 1, and the exhaust gas contg. phenol gas is introduced 4 to the lower part of the cylinder 1, and in the layer 5, phenol is caused to react with NaOH and is absorbed off into the absorbing liquid. In this case, the NaHCO3 concn. owing to the CO2 gas in the exhaust gas formed in the absorbing liquid in the storage tank 2 begins to increase with lapse of time. The fluctuations in the pH value of the absorbing liquid is detected with a pH controller 12 in the tank 2 which in turn operates a pump 10 to supply 6 a predetermined amount of the NaOH soln. 11 to the storage tank 2, whereby the concn. ratio of NaOH/NaHCO3 is maintained constant. Hence, the removal rate of the phenol gas by the absorbing liquid may be maintained at a predetermined fixed value.
