CONSTITUTION:The coating comprising the mixture of Al and Al nitride as well as nitride of elements selected from the group of B, Si, Ti, Zr, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mn is formed on the surface of Al or its alloy by a plasma spray method or the like, after which the material is heated in an inert gas atmosphere or vacuum to the temp. below the m. p. of the Al or its alloy which is the base material, whereby the coating layer is diffusion-bonded to the base material. In this way, the hardened layer which withstands long-time abrasion is formed on the surface of Al or its alloy.
