Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a low alloy steel with superior hydrogen resistance by controlling the Al content of steel to a very small amount and adding an adequate amount of C, Si Mn, Cr and Mo.
CONSTITUTION: This low alloy steel contains 0.05W0.24% C, 0.015W0.5% Si, 0.4W1.5% Mn, 0.02W3.5% Cr, 0.3W1.5% Mo and 0.002W0.010% Al. Since this steel has superior hydrogen resistance and is hardly made brittle in a hydrogen atmosphere or high temp. and pressure, it is suitable for use as a material for an ammonia plant, a methanol plant and an apparatus such as a desulfurization reactor.
