Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for a medicine and agricultural chemical in high yield, by reacting CO with an alcohol and specific amounts of two or more types of base in the presence of a Co carbonyl catalyst while adding a monochloroacetate in portions thereto.
CONSTITUTION: CO is reacted with an alcohol, (1) an alkali metal carbonate and/ or bicarbonate and (2) an alkali metal hydroxide and/or alcoholate as bases while adding a monochloroacetate in portions thereto in the presence of a Co carbonyl catalyst to give the titled compound. The weight ratio between the bases (1) and (2) is preferably 90:10W99.5:0.5. The amount of the bases is a stoichiometric one or more, preferably 1W1.3 times that of the monochloroacetate. The pH of the reaction system can be automatically controlled, and the reaction proceeds with stable operation without problems of catalyst activity.
