Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve transmission efficiency, by arranging and filling many fiber strands having angular sections in a glass tube and by heating and compressing them to produce a glass bar and by extending it to produce a bundle fiber after grinding the glass bar into an angular section overall and by grinding round parts of the section and by bundling many bundle fibers densely and by fixing them into one body.
CONSTITUTION: Base metal 10 consisting of core 11 and clad 12 is so ground overall that the section may be square or a regular hexagon, and it is extended into angular bar 13. These angular fiber strands 13 are filled in jacket glass tube 14 densely. They are heated and compressed to produce glass bar 15, and glass bar 15 is so ground that the section may be square or a regular hexagon. After this angular glass bar 16 is heated and extended, plural glass bars 16 are arranged and bundled, and round parts of the section are ground. Many glass bars 16 are fixed without gaps into one body to produce an image fiber. As a result, transmission efficiency can be improved.
