Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the fiber having the plural transmission lines having sufficient strength by inserting fiber base materials into the glass pipe of the same kind as that of said base materials, filling the spacing by the glass powder of the same kind as that of the base materials and heating and stretching the base materials under vacuum pressure reduction.
CONSTITUTION: A fiber base material 1 is formed by a core 2 and a clad. A glass pipe 3 is made of the material having a softening point nearly equal to that of the fiber base material 1 and is inserted with the plural base wires 1 of the same size. Glass filler is inserted in the spacing 4 of the fiber base materials 1 and pipe 3. Glass powder, glass rod or their combination is used for the glass filler and in all cases, the one having a melting point nearly equal to that of the base mterials 1 and pipe 3 is used. Thence, one end of the multifiber base materials is sealed and while being evacuated from the other end, they are heated and stretched to obtain the multifibers. The production in this way yields the multicore fiber having a plurality of transmission lines having sufficient strength.
