Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain an optical fiber bundle of high density and high mechanical strength by simultaneously drawing multiple preforms, twisting them together and performing precoating.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of preforms 2 are simultaneously fed by a preform feeder 1 into a drawing furnace 3, where they are melted by heating and are drawn to optical fibers 4. The fibers 4 are bundled by a precoating die 5 and are thereby coated and precoated of silicone resin or the like. After the precoating is baked with a precoating baking furnace 6, the fibers are taken up by a take-up machine 7. Since the take-up machine 7 is mounted to a take-up machine rotating device 8, the take-up machine rotating device 8 is rotated in the arrow A direction and the take-up machine 7 is rotated around the vertical shaft orthogonal to the take-up revolving shaft, whereby the twisting and precoating may be accomplished simultaneously at the time when the fibers 4 pass the precoating die 5.
