Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain polyvinylidene resin (PVDF) fibers having a high strength with high productivity, by melt-spinning a blend of the resin and a plasticizer in a low-viscosity state, and by heat-treating and drawing the fibers thus obtained after removal of the plasticizer.
CONSTITUTION: A blend of PVDF and a plasticizer, e.g. a polyester, preferably in an equal amount or less, is melt spun, and the plasticizer is extracted with tetrahydrofuran, etc. which will swell PVDF slightly. The fibers are then heat-treated at 80W175°C for 1W24hr, then annealed at 60W100°C if necessary, and drawn to give the desired fibers.
