Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently produce an optical fiber cable of high mechanical strength by using optical fiber protecting members of a V-shape in section.
CONSTITUTION: Optical fibers 1 are put into the grooves of optical fiber protecting members 2 which are of a V-shape in section and are continuous in the longitudinal derection. Since 2 consists of high tensile material, for example, FRP, stainless steel or the like, it also serves as a tension member and has at the same time a cushion function of protecting the optical fibers 1 against the pressure from the side faces. A plurality of V-shaped continuous bodies 2 are twisted and are protected witn a tape winding layer 3 and a sheath 4. The production of the above-metioned cable simply entails letting off a plurality of the optical fibers 1 and V-shaped continuous bodies 2 from the rotary cage of a collecting machine, letting off the V-shaped continuous bodies without untwisting, and putting the optical fibers 1 into the grooves of the V-shaped continuous bodies at the time of twisting a plurality of 2 with an agbundling die or before this.
