Abstract

PURPOSE: To hold the level of the light beam emitted from a light emitting source within a proper range to improve the reliability of recording and reproducing operations, by detecting intensity of the light beam emitted from the light emitting source to control the driving condition of the light emitting source according to this intensity.
CONSTITUTION: The extension angle of the light beam radiated from semiconductor laser 5 is different in horizontal and vertical directions. Light beam 31 of a small extension angle is used for data recording through the aperture diameter limiting plate 21, and light beam 30 of a large extension angle is reflected by diameter limiting plate 21 and is incident to photodetector 22 as light beam 12. Photodetector 22 outputs signal 23 of a level corresponding to intensity of light beam 12. Compensating circuit 7 outputs signal 16 according to control signal 25 from the external and the error signal from comparator 6, and power supply circuit 8 supplies level-controlled driving current 17 to semiconductor laser 5.
