PURPOSE:To interrupt the gate in the state that a current flows the thyristor in the inverter for short time by applying a signal having higher frequency than the frequency at normally operating time to a commutation circuit at malfunction occurring time. CONSTITUTION:If a malfunction signal rises, a gate amplifier 11 is interlocked, and the gate signal in the inverter 4 is interrupted. Then, the clock pulse of the ring counter 10 is interlocked, and the ring counter 10 is stopped. When an on-delay timer 19 is counted up, it will produce a counter pulse. Thus, a counter 15 is operated, and will produce a gate signal through a monostable multivibrator circuit 12 and a gate amplifier 13 to a commutation circuit 5. If no output is produced from the circuit 12, the timer 19 is counted up by the output from the inverter 18, and a count pulse is again produced. When the counter 15 is thus freely run and is then counted up, the count pulse is interlocked, the gate amplifier 13 is also interlocked, and the gate signal of the circuit 5 is interrupted.
