PURPOSE:To change the period of an impressed pulse current to thereby conduct temperature compensation for exothermic element and eliminate variations in shade of printed characters, by providing a circuit which controls the rotation of a motor for feeding a thermal head in accordance with variations in the dot density of the characters being printed. CONSTITUTION:The exothermic resistor 6 is connected with the head-feeding motor 2 and moved by the motor 2. The rotation frequency of the motor 2 is detected by an encoder 13 and a pulse proportional to the rotation frequency of the motor 2 is generated through the use of light or magnetism. Synchronously with this, a pulse for driving the resistor 6 is generated in accordance with DATA by a pulse-generating circuit for dot pattern 14. A resistor 11 and a transistor 12 for driving motor 2 are connected in series with the motor 2. The transistor 12 is turned ON during the printing of ordinary characters such as alphabets, numerals, KANA, etc. and is turned OFF during the printing of Chinese characters and the like with high dot densities. During the OFF time, the voltage is lowered by an amount corresponding to the resistor 11, resulting in a decrease of the rotation frequency of the motor 2.
