Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve a thermal printer so that it is capable of printing characters of the same density even if printing conditions such as ambient, environmental and thermal conditions vary, and lengthen the life of its thermal print head by providing a density adjusting means which changes over the density of printed characters. CONSTITUTION:When a density adjusting switch 1 is set to the position of an optimum print density, an earth voltage is supplied to an input interface 4 through terminals 1a, 1b or 1c corresponding to the position. In response to a read signal Rc from a CPU5, the input interface 4 generates density setting data B1 corresponding to the set position of the switch 1 and supplies them to the CPU5. Based on print density data B3 from the CPU5 to be controlled in accordance with a program of a memory 6 and a write signal WC1, a head drive circuit 7 generates a head drive signal HD and supplies it to a head main body 8, and on the other hand, a head control circuit 9, based on serial print data B4 from the CPU5 and a write signal WC2, generates parallel print data and supplies them to the main body 8 which performs printing by causing desired elements to generate heat.
