PURPOSE:To enable a high-speed printing eliminating return time with a higher printing speed without change in the head feed rate by performing printing in two ways according to directions of head feeding through simultaneous printing of two lines with a gutter positioned at the center of the direction in which ink is injected. CONSTITUTION:Printing ink drops 9a and 9b positively or negatively charged are deflected according to charge given by charge electrodes 4 arranged above and below it and hit on a printing paper 8 while unnecessary ink drops 10 with no charge are housed in a gutter 11 positioned at the center. Data equivalent to two lines from an inputting section 12 is inputted and stored into a buffer memory 14 by two lines and characters equivalent to two lines are printed separated above and below the gutter by one feeding of a printing head. In a deflection voltage selector section 2 adapted to be designated in the feeding direction by a feeding direction designating section 13, voltage applied on deflection plates 6 and 7 is changed oppositely when the head is fed in the opposite direction. Therefore, printing is performed in two ways according to directions of feeding of the printing head.
