The timing of the cutting of the ink line jetted from the ink jet head 5 into ink droplets is constant for a fixed value of the excitation frequency. The diameter of the ink droplet changes with the change of the pressure in the ink jet head 5, so that the diameter of the dots on the recording paper can be modified arbitrarily by a factor of up to about two. Therefore, when the deflecting voltage is increased according to the size of the tink droplets and the carriage feed speed is simultaneously increased correspondingly thereto, larger characters can be printed.
