Abstract
PURPOSE: To convert CaO to CaCO3 which is harmless against seawater, by bringing CO2 gas into contact with a solid waste containing unreacted CaO produced in desulfurization of SOx-containing waste gas using CaO.
CONSTITUTION: Waste combustion gas containing SOx is desulfurized by reacting with CaO or CaO.MgO to convert SOx into CaSO4. In this instance, desulfurizer, i.e., CaO or CaO.MgO is used in 2W10 times the theoretical amount so as to increase the desulfurizing ratio. As a result, the unreacted CaO or CaO.MgO remains in the desulfurized products. If it is disposed of as it is near the seashore, CaO is converted into Ca(OH)2 by rainwater, which flows in the sea, changing pH of the seawater and whitening it, and results in an environmental pollution. This harmful effect can be prevented by contacting the CaO-containing waste with CO2-containing high-temperature waste gas, to convert CaO into CaCO3.
