Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable continuous mass production and to facilitate manufacture processes by reducing diameters of a large-diameter glass sheath tube, glass pipe, optical fiber, etc., to desired value by heating and drawing them.
CONSTITUTION: In large-diameter glass sheath tube 2, optical fiber bundle 4 for observation and glass pipe 3 are provided successively and into pipe 3, glass bar 11 is inserted. Over the entire gas between the internal surface of tube 2 and pipe 3 and fiber bundle 4, optical fiber 5 for illumination is closely inserted. Next, each glass material in tube 2 is heated by heater 12 together with tube 2 and drawn by roller 13 to a prescribed diameter; and each material when reduced in diameter at the same rate is cut by cutter 14 to a prescribed length. Then, only glass bar 11 is solved and removed by being immersed in an acid solution to form hollow processing-tool penetration channel 3a.
