PURPOSE:To detect the occurrence of the commutation failure with a simple circuit by detecting the output currents of a power inverter circuit and the input current of a power rectifier, comparing both the detection signals and determining the commutation failure. CONSTITUTION:A current supplied from an AC power source 1 is supplied to a load 5 by converting it by a current type converter I including a power inverter 2, a reactor 3 and power rectifier 4, and is supplied to a load 5. Current transformers 6, 9 are mounted at the input and the output of the converter I, and a detection signal responsive to the input current and the output current can be obtained by the rectifiers 7, 10 and resistors 8, 11. They are inputted to a comparator 13 together with the low level bias signal from the potentiometer 12. Since the sum of the input signals of the comparator 13 at normal operating time, no output is produced, but since the sum of the input signals become negative at the commutation failure time, the detecting circuit 14 produces an output.
