Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform a shearing force test at site and to identify a correct distribution condition of the soil quality by a method wherein the test pieces are enclosed by three frames, both the upper and the lower frames are fixed while a horizontal movement force is applied to the intermediate frame.
CONSTITUTION: Boring operation is performed at site for a shearing test, a cubic body having one side of ten times of the maximum grain diameter is defined as a size of the speciemen and a size of each of the frames 1, 2 and 3 having a central hollow portion having the same size as that of a size of the speciemen is defined. The upper frame 1 and the lower frame 3 are fixed and a horizontal moving force is applied to the intermediate frame 2 in a horizontal direction with respect to these both frames, and each of the interfaces between the frames is made to be a shearing plane to perform a shearing test. A strain control system is applied for providing a shearing force, four dial gauges are placed at the four corners of the placing side for the reversing jack 22 of the intermediate frame 2, a load is read to increase and a strain is also increased while the values are read under an action of the jack 22.
