Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide an efficient cooling for a space between the two cylinder bores as well as a small-sized cooling device by a method wherein a heat pipe is buried between the two cylinder bores in the cylinder block, the heat pipe is extended over the cylinder head, and cooling fins are arranged at the upper end of the head. CONSTITUTION:When applied to a four-cylinder engine such as motor bycycle, a heat pipe 5 is buried between the cylinder bores 3 two of which are made at both sides of a central chain hole 2 of a cylinder block 1. The heat pipe 5 is extended over a cylinder head 6, and a cooling fin 7 is arranged at the top end of the heat pipe 5. A number of cooling fins 8 are arranged around a circumference of the cylinder blook 1 in a usual manner. Therefore, a heat at a space between the cylinder bores 3 is transferred through the heat pipe 5 and radiated from the cooling fin 7, so that it is not necessary to provide a cooling air passage between the cylinder bores 3 as seen in a conventional system, and further it is possible to cause a space between the cylinder bores 3 to be decreased thereby providing a small-sized cooling device.
