Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the quantity of halogen oxyacid or its salt in the elecrolytic solution, by bringing the electrolytic solution in the anode room into contact with the catalyst material including a transition element or its compound. CONSTITUTION:Anode 3, cathode 4, and diaphragm 5 are provided in the electrolytic bath, and the aqueous alkali halide solution is supplied from supply device 13. The liquid is circulated in anode room 1 by pump PA, and catalyst room 8 is provided near the exit of the electrolytic bath of the circulation system, and the catalyst including a transition element or its compound is stored in this room 8. Therefore, the electrolytic solution has halogen oxyacid or its salt decomposed in catalyst room 8 before entering into cathode room 2. In case that the electrolytic bath has an intermediate room, the electrolytic solution in the intermediate room is circulated similarly and is caused to pass through the catalyst room 8. Thus, wear of diaphragm 5, evaporation tower TC, and so on dependent upon halogen oxyacid or its salt is prevented.
