Abstract
PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for calibration according to the kind of liquid and corrections accompanying a change of the kind of liquid, by detecting a liquid level without reference to the kind of liquid by making use of the variation in electrostatic capacity of a thermocouple with the fluctuations of the liquid level.
CONSTITUTION: Auxiliary electrode 2 coming in contact entirely with liquid 1 at any time and electrode 3 varying in area contacting with liquid 1 with a liquid level are connected to oscillators 4 and 5 whose oscillation frequencies depend upon the electrostatic capacity, and the output of AND circuit 6 that sends the output of oscillator 4 when socillator 5 generates a high-level output is connected to counter 7. Denoting the time when the output of oscillator 5 is high as T1' and the oscillation frequency of oscillator 4 and T2, the number NP of pulses appearing at the output of AND circuit 6 is T1'/T2 and an output relating to the area of a part of electrode 3 contacting with liquid 1 i.e. the liquid level can be obtained without depending to the dielectric constant of liquid 1.
