Abstract

PURPOSE: To attain an almost uniform flow in an annular structure, by setting the relationship between the length of the upper part of the annular structure and that of its lower part in consideration of interference between the structure and a propeller.
CONSTITUTION: An upward flow S1 introduced into an accessory annular structure 2A is restricted by the inside 2i of the upper part of the structure 2A to produce an almost parallel flow. The occurrence of a vertical swirl S2 is suppressed and its growth is weakened. Even if the vertical swirl S2 takes place, it is weakened and rectified because the accessory annular structure 2A acts as a guide. A flow outgoing from the outlet port of the structure 2A enters into an annular structure 2 located behind the former structure 2A and mixes with parallel flows S3 which extend along the sides of a ship between both the annular structures 2A, 2. As a result, a region of large turbulence and strong following flow is made in front of the top of a propeller 3. For that reason, the flow is diffused by the time when it reaches the propeller 3. The flow is thus conducted with an almost uniform velocity distribution to the entire surface of each blade of the propeller 3.
