Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce a concave diffraction grating in size by filling the space between the grating and a plurality of horizontally arranged optical fibers with a transparent dielectric, introducing light through one of the fibers, and allowing the other fibers to receive monochromatic lights different from each other in wavelength. CONSTITUTION:Transparent dielectric 6 such as glass is put into the space between concave diffraction grating 5 and optical fibers 3, 4, 4',... and fixed with an adhesive or the like. Fibers 3, 4, 4',... are horizontally arranged at suitable angle alpha between fiber 3 for incident light and the normal line of grating 5. Considering the refractive index of dielectric 6 to be (n), the spread angle of light emerging from fiber 3 is made smaller as the index (n) is increased. The light is branched with grating 5 and enters fibers 4, 4',..., and lights lambda1, lambda2,... different from each other in wavelength emerge from fibers 4, 4',..., respectively. Thus, grating 5 can be reduced in size.
