Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce connection loss and crosstalk and improve the characteristics of a titled device by forming a slablike lens medium with graded distribution of refractive indexes in its thickness direction and fitting a recessed diffraction grating to one end surface. CONSTITUTION:In a transparent substrate consisting of a dielectric element such as glass and synthetic resin, its refractive indexes are distributed so as to be increased at the center part and reduced gradually in proportion to the access to the surface and then an element substrate 5 of which one end surface is made spherical is formed. Subsequently, a recessed diffraction grating which has been separately prepared is adhered to the spherical part of said element through transparent resin and then an incident fiber and a projection fiber (branching fiber) are connected to the grating. Incident light from an incident light fiber to the optical branching filter with said configuration is diffracted by the diffraction grating 6 and branched into 2 kinds of wavelength or more lambda1, lambda2... and each optical beam is converged into a projection fiber different in every wavelength and projected.
