Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect and determine free fatty acids easily and rapidly from the degree of discoloration of a coloring reagent caused by reaction by sampling the specimen to a filmlike carrier impregnated with the coloring reagent and allowing the same to contact the separately stabilized detecting reagent carrier.
CONSTITUTION: A detecting reagent carrier 2 impregnated with potassium iodide, etc. and dried is mounted to a micro-reacting vessel 5, and a detecting assistant reagent such as potassium iodate is dropped onto this. Separately, a filmlike carrier 3 impregnated with a coloring reagent such as starch is mouted to a transparent cover plate 4, and the specimen sample is drawn into this and the carrier is superposed on the reacting vessel 5. The detcting reagent impregnated in the carrier 2 mixes with the detecting assistant reagent and becomes active to react with the specimen sample, thence it reacts with the coloring reagent impregnated in the filmlike carrier 3. The change in the color tone produced at this time is observed, whereby the concentration of the free fatty acid in the specimen is detected. With this method, the reagent in the carrier stabilizes and the a slight amount of the specimen is measured with good reproducibility.
