Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture a thin sheet of high magnetic permeability alloy having no microcracks, by feeding heated and melted iron alloy material contg. Al, Si onto the surface of a moving materials at a temp. set just above its m.p. in order to cool and solidify it in one piece. CONSTITUTION:An alloy material is prepared, which has sendust composition composed of 4-7% Al, 8-11% Si, the balance being principally Fe, if necessary by the addition with small quantities of V, Nb, Cr etc., and which has about 1,280 deg.C m.p. The alloy material 1 is heated and melted in a heating cylinder 3 in a nonoxidizing atmosphere such as Ar etc. After it is cooled to a temp. near its m.p., particularly to 100 deg.C temp. above the m.p., it is sprayed from a spray nozzle 3a onto twin rolls 4a, 4b rotating at high speed. Hereby the molten alloy material 1 is quenched by the contact with the rolls 4a, 4b and is rolled simultaneously and solidified in one piece to form a thin sheet 5. That is, relatively slow cooling of the molten material 1 permits to make the thermal contraction due to the following quanching relatively uniform over whole material, thereby producing a thin sheet 5 having no microcracks.
