Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an insoluble anode of good corrosion resistance and adhesiveness which consists in forming the intermediate layer of manganese oxide of specific component composition on a bulb metal base body and further forming a surface layer by platinum base metals.
CONSTITUTION: Metals forming passive films such as, for example, titanium and tantalum are used as the bulb metal base body. The intermediate layer is manganese oxide contg. nonstoichiometric compound expressed by MnOx (x is 1.5W2.0). More specifically, it is, for example, manganese nitrate, manganese acetate or the like and is coated on the base body by using a solvent such as ethanol. It is dried at about ≤200°C and is deposited at about 170W600°C in an oxidative atmosphere, whereby the intermediate layer of several tens μ thickness is formed. It is ≥90% in α-MnO3. The surface layer is provided in order to enhance catalyst activity, and comprises a thin layer of platnium base metals or their oxide, for example, platinum, ruthenium,etc. Alcohol or the like is used as the solvent and the coating is heated and baked at about 300W700°C after applying and drying, whereby the surface layer of several μ thickness is obtd.
