Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain atably the title acrylate with preventing the gel formation in the reaction, by adding a nitrogen atom-containing chelating agent to a reaction system comprising an epoxy resin and (meth)acrylic acid.
CONSTITUTION: A) An epoxy resin is reacted with B) a carboxylic acid ingredient comprising not less than 30wt.% calculated as carboxyl group equivalent of (meth)acrylic acid with stirring in the presence of a catalyst (e.g., metal hydroxide, metal halide, etc.), a radical polymerization inhibitor (e.g., benzoquinone, hydroquinone, etc.), and a nitrogen atom-containing chelating agent [e.g., ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (disodium salt), 2,2'-dipyridine, etc.] at 70W150°C. An amount of the chelating agent is preferably 0.0001pt.wt. based on 100pts.wt. of the total amount of the ingredients A and B.
