Abstract

PURPOSE: To clarify the contents of correction by a method wherein deletion marks and corrected letters are recorded on the typewritten paper, in the case of correcting the letters printed by use of an electronic typewriter.

CONSTITUTION: When the keys for letters AWE, for example, are depressed, the letters are printed on paper as shown in Fig. a and coded and memorized in a memory unit as shown in Fig. b. Next, for replacing the letters C and D with X, Y and Z, a back-space key is depressed twice to move the carriage backward and set the printing head at the position of the letter D, and a delete key is depressed twice, so that the deletion mark / is printed on each of the letters D and C and the corresponding codes in the memory unit are deleted (see Figs. c. d). Then, the keys for the letters X, Y and Z to be inserted are depressed sequentially, so that the letters X, Y and Z are printed on a displaced line on the paper and the corresponding codes are inserted into the code pattern in the memory unit (see Figs. e, f). Then, with a return key depressed and a print key depressed, a series of letters ABXYZE is printed as shown in Fig. g.
