Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a tapered pipe of high accuracy in one process at high efficiency by rolling a pipe by means of a roll having a groove which is of an arc shape in sectional shape and varies continuously in depth.
CONSTITUTION: For example, an aluminum pipe 1 is inserted onto a mandrel 2 for determining the inside diameter of a tapered pipe, and is fixed by means of a chuck 3. The chuck 3 is so arranged as to advance by a predetermined distance and rotated by a predetermined angle with respect to the mandrel 2, at every one reciprocation of a roll 4. The roll 4 has a groove 5 which is of an arc shape in section and varies continuously in depth; therefore, if it is rolled on the mandrel 2, the locus drawn by the clearance between the groove 5 and the mandrel 2 becomes as shown by broken lines 6. The aluminum pipe 1 is rolled by repeatedly reciprocating the roll 4, and at every 1 stroke it is rotated by a predetermined angle and is advanced by the chuck 3. Since the depth of the groove 5 varies continuously, the taper in which the uneven thickness of the blank pipe is corrected is formed.
