Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it possible to take a circuit-by-circuit test of a repeater unit with high precision by leading an optical cord, supplying a light signal to the light circuit of a light submarine repeating device and the photodetector of a light repeating circuit, out of the repeater unit. CONSTITUTION:In hermetically sealed repeater unit 11, up and down light repeating circuits 12 and 13 are provided and both circuits are equipped with photodetectors 15 and 16 and light emitting elements 14 and 17 to perform reproduction and repeating of light signals. Unit 11 is further provided with light circuits 27 and 28, which are used for the supervision over and fault detection of the repeating transmission system. Further, optical cord 32 connected to circuit 27 at one end and supplying light signals to photodetector 16 from the other end and optical cord 36 connecting circuit 27 to element 15 are led out of unit 11 and then connected to inside optical fiber via airtight connectors 23, 33, 37 and 38. Simultaneously, optical cords 47 and 52 are led out at sides of circuit 28 and elements 14 and 17. Unit 11 is placed in a perfectly airtigh state, the lead-out optical cords are removed, and light signals are supplied from connectors, so that respective circuits can be tested.
