Abstract

PURPOSE: To minimize the frequecy of use of pumps by equipping the discharge line for the pumps with a discharge flow meter and controlling the number of pumps to be operated through comparative calculation of the actual rate of discharge with respect to the target rate-of discharge curve.
CONSTITUTION: A water level meter 3 and a discharge flow meter 7 are installed at the service tower 2 and the discharge line of pumps 1, respectively, and the outputs from these are applied to a pump controlling device 6. On the basis of these input signals, this control device 6 determines the total rate of discharge (Q1,... Q6) of the pumps 1 from the water level (H1...L1) in the service tower 2 and performs comparative calculation of the actual rate of discharge given by the discharge flow meter 7 with respect to the total rate of discharge so as to control the number of pumps 1 to be operated. Thereby, the service tower 2 can be operated in the optimum way for the plant as well as the frequency of use of pumps 1 can be suppressed to the minimum.
