Abstract
PURPOSE: To form gases of a perfectly mixed state rapidly at the time of mixing two kinds of gases, by using an apparatus of multitube system heat exchanger type consisting of a plurality of pipe bundles having small holes and a cylindrical member containing these.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of mixing and reacting a gas contg. the organic compounds to be oxidized and a gas contg. molecular oxygen such as at the time making ethylene oxide from ethylene, both gases are perfectly mixed extremely rapidly without forming any mixed gases of the composition within an explosion range on the way. To this end, the 1st gas to be mixed is supplied from the inlet 7 in an apparatus consisting of a cylinder 3 closed at both ends by end plates 5, 5' and extension parts 3', 3", is passed through the inside of the apparatus and is exhausted from an outlet 8. Also, the 2nd gas to be mixed is supplied through an inlet 9 into the multiple pipe bodies 1 provided within the apparatus. Since one or more small holes 6 are provided to the pipe bodies, the 2nd gas spouts from these small holes 6 and perfectly mixes with the 1st gas passing the side faces thereof. The mixed gases are then taken out from the outlet 8.
