CONSTITUTION:A fiber layer made of iron fibers which are continuously cut along the same direction into a length of 2-50mu, is subsintered at 750-950 deg.C in a reducing atmospheric current of hydrogen gas or the like. After that, the subsintered body is compressed and molded at a room temperature under a pressure of 200- 300kg/cm<2>. Here, not less than two of beltlike fiber layers are crossed each other to be laminated. Next, the molded body is sintered at 950-1,200 deg.C in a reducing atmospheric current of hydrogen gas or the like. The thus sintered base plate is subjected to nickel-plating so as to make it to have a nickel layer of 2-4mu thickness, thus a sintered base plate for an alkaline storage battery being obtained.
