Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a sintered base plate with a high porosity and a high strength which provides high-rate-discharge performance and high density capacity, by laminating iron layers made of iron fibers which are cut along the same direction in such a manner that the layers cross each other, before the laminated layers are sintered. CONSTITUTION:A fiber layer made of iron fibers which are continuously cut along the same direction into a length of 2-50mu, is subsintered at 750-950 deg.C in a reducing atmospheric current of hydrogen gas or the like. After that, the subsintered body is compressed and molded at a room temperature under a pressure of 200- 300kg/cm<2>. Here, not less than two of beltlike fiber layers are crossed each other to be laminated. Next, the molded body is sintered at 950-1,200 deg.C in a reducing atmospheric current of hydrogen gas or the like. The thus sintered base plate is subjected to nickel-plating so as to make it to have a nickel layer of 2-4mu thickness, thus a sintered base plate for an alkaline storage battery being obtained.
