Abstract
PURPOSE: To eliminate the formation of any flash and deviation of mold and prolong the life of the mold by gradually flaring upward only the part corresponding to the tapered part at the skirt end of an insulator cap of the inside shape of the single mold without matching the same to the outside shape of the cap.
CONSTITUTION: A metal mold 8 has an inside surface 9 of the shape matching the outside shape of an insulator cap 1 and gradually flaring upward. The inside surface part corresponding to the tapered part 4 at the skirt 2 end of the cap 1 in continuation to the inside surface 9 is not matched to the tapered part shape and has a flaring part 10 which is conversely slightly inclined. To pour molten metal, first the core print 16 of a socket core 15 is fitted in the recess 14 of the metal mold and a cementing core 17 of which the outside surface matches the inside surface of the cap 1 is put into the metal mold 8 and is placed on a step part 11. Molten metal is poured through a sprue 18, is allowed to ascend in the cavity and is flowed into a head 19. The gas produced escapes through a through-hole 13, and during the cooling process, the sprue 18 and head 19 are broken, after which an ejector bar is inserted into the hole 13 to remove the casting from the metal mold. The excess metal of the tapered part 4 is cut to obtain the product.
