Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively prevent the deterioration of liquid crystal owing to ultraviolet rays by coating polyimide-base high polymer films on the inside and outside surfaces of substrates having transparent conductive films of a liquid crystal display device.
CONSTITUTION: A soln. of polyamic acid obtained by condensation of dicarboxylic acid anhydride and diamine is coated on the inside and outside surfaces of glass substrates 1, 2 having transparent conductive films 3, 4, after which it heat-treated to cause dehydration ring closure, whereby polyimide films 10, 11 are formed. Although coating this on the electrodes 3, 4 only is effective, coating on respective both surfaces of the substrates 1, 2 is more effective. Since the polyimide films per se have ultraviolet ray absorbancy in this way, there is no need for using any polarizing film having ultraviolet ray absorbing layer or ultraviolet absorbing filter and the ultraviolet ray deterioration of the display device is prevented.
