Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a polarizing plate which is suited for liquid crystal display devices or the like, has superior transparency, water resistance and heat resistance and has good dimensional stability by providing a thermoplastic polycarbonate film layer having a phase difference value less than a specific value on the surface of a polarizer. CONSTITUTION:A polarizing plate is formed by providing a polycarbonate film layer having <=500nm phase difference value delta expressed by the equation on one or both surfaces of a polarizer made by adsorbing and orienting I2 or dichromatic dye on a polyvinyl alcohol type film or a polyene type polarizer. The polycarbonate film is prepd. by adhering a cast film made by coating a soln. of thermoplastic polycarbonate in methylene chloride onto a release film to about 60mu dry thickness then drying the same by means of an urethane resin type adhesive agent or the like or adhering a commercially marketed film which has been heat-treated to have the phase difference value of the above-described conditions. In this way, the polarizing plate having moderate rigidity is obtained.
