Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the decrease of laser output with time by arranging a heater and a catalyst in a laser medium flow passage and controlling the temperature of the heater to recombine dissociated CO and O2. CONSTITUTION:Laser medium blown out from a blower 7 collides with the end wall surface of an airtight vessel 10 and reverses, then passes a filter 5 and flows into a discharge part 3. In the flow passage of this laser medium, a heater 11 and a CO oxidizing catalyst 12 are arranged. The amount of CO2 reduced and the amount of CO generated by dissociation are detected by a CO2.CO analyzer, and differences between these amounts and optimum amounts are sent to a heater power source 13 through a differential amplifier 16. If a difference from an optimum composition is large, the heating power of the power source 13 is increased, the gas temperature therefore rises, the recombining reaction of CO and O2 is accelerated and a feedback circuit operates so that the actual composition may again approach the optimum composition. As a result, the reduction of laser output with time caused by the dissociation of CO2 is dissolved and the carbon dioxide gas laser oscillator can be operated as sealed for a long time.
