Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an insoluble electrode with excellent corrosion resistance by a method wherein, after a platinum group metal is electroplated on an electroconductive matrix material, a salt of a specific platinum group metal is coated and subjected to thermal decomposition in a nonoxidizing atmosphere to coat defect portions of the electroplating.
CONSTITUTION: After a platinum group metal plating layer 1 is applied to a electroconductive matrix material 3 such as titanium or the like by the electroplating, a salt of a platinum group metal such as Ir, Ru, Rh or Pt is coated thereon. This coated matrix material is heated to about 380W600°C in a reductive atmosphere or an atmosphere substantiall containing no oxygen to subject the coated salt of a platinum group metal to thermal decomposition and diffuse said metal as well as to form a coating 2 filling and coating defect portions such as pinholes or the like of a platinum group metal layer formed by electroplating. Thereby, an insoluble electrode for electroplating of a steel plate or the like with excellent corrosion resistance is obtained easily.
