Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the cost and substantially the weight of a multicylindrical shock absorber without the concentricity function of a bearing by press forming it with its circumferential surface made as a dimensional reference surface to the sliding surface of the piston rod. CONSTITUTION:In a multicylindrical shock absorber, a piston rod 4 goes through a bearing 5 at the upper end of an outer shell 1 and a gland packing 6 above it and extends to the outside, said bearing 5 being press formed in one piece with a rod sliding surface 5b and a dimensional reference surface 5c of the outer shell 1 formed on its inner and outer circumferential surfaces respectively, and the outer circumferential surface of a cylinder fitting part 10b of an insert metal 10 is determined as an dimensional reference surface 10c for a cylinder 2 using the dimensional reference surface 5c as a reference. The concentricities of the piston rod 4, shell 1, etc. are maintained when the shell 1 and the cylinder 2 are assembled using said reference surfaces 5c and 10c.
