Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily manufacture crystalline V-P oxide of high pruity by reacting pentavalent V and P oxides or oxyacids in an aqueous medium in the presence of H2NOH hydrochloride or H2NNH2 hydrochloride.
CONSTITUTION: Pentavalent V oxide such as V2O5 or oxyacid and pentavalent P oxide such as P2O5 or oxyacid are dispersed in an aqueous medium in a P/V atomic ratio of 0.8W1.25, especially 1.00W1.10. At this time, the initial phosphoric acid concn. of the medium is adjusted to 5W50wt%. After adding H2NOH hydrochloride or H2NNH2 hydrochloride as a reducing agent, the medium contg. the V and P starting materials dispersed is reacted at room temp. W90°C, and blue crystalline V-P oxide obtd. by concentrating the liq. reaction product is recovered as a precipitate. This oxide may be calcined at a high temp. to give vapor phase oxidation catalyst having high activity and high selectivity.
